Dereham is a lively market town in the centre of Norfolk, which dates back to Saxon times. Markets are still held every Tuesday and Friday. There are a variety of pubs, restaurants and eateries in the town and plenty to do – whether it’s a night at the cinema or a day trip on the Mid-Norfolk Railway. The railway’s trust was established in 1995, and has restored 17.5 miles of track between Dereham and Wymondham, making it one of the largest preserved railways in the UK today.

Dereham is steeped in history. One of the oldest buildings in the town is the Assembly Rooms, which were built in 1756 on the site of the old Market Cross and Prison. Many of the original wattle and daub thatched houses were destroyed in two great fires in 1581 and 1670. The high street contains many of the shops you’d expect to see as well as pubs and restaurants. There are open air tennis courts, a skate park and children’s play equipment in the town and a non-league football club, Dereham Town FC, plays at Aldiss Park. The town benefits from a leisure centre complete with full size swimming pool.
Dereham is situated on the A47, 15 miles from the city of Norwich to the east and 25 miles from King’s Lynn to the west. Being in the heart of Norfolk, Dereham has the appeal of being less than 30 minutes from Norwich and from the North Norfolk coast. Norwich has frequent train services to London with a journey time of around two hours.
