The prospect of some garden leave in the Summer would fill most with delight, me too…unfortunately I chose November! Well four weeks of daytime TV and pottering about are over and it’s time to get back in the saddle. However, my final Sunday evening on garden leave was a whirlwind of activity. A knock on the door resulted in a stranded driver stuck in the middle of a ford in the dark needing help. Even though I was not looking my best, I put my wellies on and went to help bail them out. Just as we got them out, the fire service arrive to assist. If only I had waited 5 more minutes, I could have stayed nice and dry. So even on a Sunday, you never know when you will need an estate agent!
So, back to normality, I wasn’t planning on a new role, but sometimes an opportunity comes along which is too good to resist. As soon as I met with Max Sowerby and Lloyd Sandy it took no time at all for all three of us to decide this is fate and a perfect fit.
Sowerbys are without doubt recognised by most as the leaders in Independent Estate Agency in Norfolk. This is down to many things. They have a fantastic team both in Norwich and the other 6 Norfolk offices that all cover sales, lettings and commercial. Everyone within the business works together as a team. There are no individual commissions so every member of the team works as hard as possible for every property and in harmony. The key winner in this arrangement is without doubt the client.
They have a traditional approach to dealing with people – treat everyone as you would wish to be treated yourself, yet embrace all the latest in technology to market property. A huge emphasis is put on creating full film of properties which need something extra to really show them off to their full potential. It has become quickly apparent to me that when you mix these traditional values with modern technology and add in great staff – you have a winning combination.
Selling what is nearly always someone’s main asset is an important job and one which I strongly believe deserves the best attention and expertise. I am delighted to be part of the Sowerbys family and I already I am part of the furniture.
December is the perfect time to have your home appraised ready for next year. There could be influential things that could be carried out to enhance the saleability of your home. Or if you tried to sell your property this year with no success, there will be a reason. Give us the challenge to find out why.

"Estate agents often get a pretty bad press, yet a good one can really help sell your house as I’ve recently experienced. We chose Sowerbys because of their professionalism when compared to others we looked at. It was a good choice - with Sowerbys efficiency and good presentation of our property, we sold it quickly, that’s inevitable when you think that’s a decent fee for something sold so quickly, but the presentation of our property and the professionalism of the viewings really helped. However our story didn’t end there as our buyer pulled out for personal reasons. This when you need a good agent. Sowerbys reacted quickly and with understanding of our disappointment, and got back on with the job of re-marketing the property without any fuss. This time it took longer, we were in a chain, and quite frankly the English system for selling property is broken, ours took three and a half months to exchange, and until you’ve exchanged, your sale can be gone within a heartbeat, it is not secure. This is where you need a good agent, one that will work with other agents, solicitors, buyers and sellers to keep things moving, keep everyone informed and advise you along the way. I would recommend Sowerbys without hesitation and in particular would give recognition to Peter Scott and Alison Carter at the Hunstanton office. In our experience the solicitors in our chain were not at all responsive and were poor at organising anything but the relationship between themselves and their client, and this is not enough when you’re in a chain, you need someone who will manage, coordinate and cajole across everyone across the chain, Alison Carter at Sowerbys was excellent at taking on this coordination and making things happen. It’s very difficult to know who your buyer is and how complex a chain is, until your stuck within it, and it only takes one poor solicitor or one difficult buyer and the whole lot can come crashing down without someone there to manage it through – remember that when you choose your estate agent!"
