What's on this weekend in Norfolk - 14th September 2018

Thu 13 Sep 2018

With summer not quite ready to turn it's back just yet, there is absolutely heaps going on this weekend. From a wacky circus festival to a hop picking event, and plenty in between, take your pick from our bumper guide.

Out There Festival

Expect the unexpected with the Out There International Festival of Circus and Street Arts which celebrates all things weird and wonderful. It’s a free event taking place along Great Yarmouth seafront and will comprise over 100 performers from 10 countries across the world. Bizarre acts will include comic boxing, circus and sculpture and legendary anarchic street shows.

Heritage Open Days

In its final weekend, the country’s biggest festival of heritage and culture will see popular Norfolk venues open for free and offer special activities. Attend an evening of storytelling for adults at The Forum, learn about famous alumni from Norwich High School for Girls, visit the highest vantage point in Norwich – the Catholic Cathedral, or walk Great Yarmouth’s medieval town wall.

Cider Fest

Newly refurbished with a fresh country charm, The Brisley Bell has undergone a transformation and is set to host its first ever Cider Fest on Saturday. Sit back and relax in the Tipi Bar while you taste the finest local ciders, including Norfolk Raider, Burnard Cider and Trunch Cider Co-operative. There’ll also be live music and an artisan food market showcasing local preserves, gins, ice creams and more.

Gung-Ho!

With some of the world’s biggest inflatable obstacles, this 5km run will be one fun challenge! Taking competitors back to the days of Total Wipeout and It’s A Knockout, expect slides, foam and plenty of belly laughs. Tomorrow’s course is designed for all shapes and sizes and spectators can attend for free, while entry is £60 if booked today.

Hops ‘n’ Hogs

Star Wing Brewery will be opening its doors this weekend for a day of hop picking, hog roasting and live music. The annual Hops ‘n’ Hogs event will see all ages roll up their sleeves and enjoy an afternoon of picking hops, followed by hearty food and music from The Ludlam Pikes and Mick the Baker Band. The first 50 pickers will get a free hog roast and one of the brewery’s distinctive ales.

Family Culture Day

As part of the Heritage Open Day events, why not head to Catton Park for a celebration of world cultures? Explore the historic park – a creation of the last great landscape designer Humphry Repton – through fun, free activities for the whole family. Taste global cuisines, try your hand at Chinese calligraphy, enter the drawing competition, watch dance demonstrations and attempt bushcraft.

Norwich Buddhist Centre Open Day

Open to everyone, the Norwich Buddhist Centre is inviting you, your friends and family to take a look around.
