This weekend offers up a real mixed bag of events; from snail racing to carnivals and outdoor cinemas to chainsaw displays. If you’re in need of some calm downtime or looking for a big, colourful party, we’ve got you covered.
It’s back for another year of carnival craziness! Of course, the main event is the parade which will bring people out in droves to cheer on the procession of exciting floats. There will also be a one mile fun run in the morning, the Big Knit is back to brighten up the market place and keep your eyes peeled while on the hunt for Carnival Rocks.Find out more here.
Outdoor cinema at The Plantation Gardens
Grab a blanket, pack a picnic and head to the idyllic Grade II listed English Heritage registered Plantation Garden for an evening of movies under the stars. There will be eight movies screened in Norwich’s secret garden over the next few weeks, but this weekend you can choose from Alpha Partridge: Alpha Papa, The Greatest Showman and Top Gun.Find out more here.
Journey back to the 1940s to discover what life was like for the residents of King’s Lynn during WWII. There will be heaps going on including a tour of the air raid shelter beneath Tuesday Market Place, big band performances and a 1940s army camp re-enactment. Get a 1940s makeover and dance lessons or visit the Lynn Museum for free to meet 1940s characters including Winston Churchill.Find out more here.
World Snail Racing Championships
Having been in training for weeks, the moment when over 200 snails slug it out over a 13 inch course for the title of World Champion is almost upon us. Current champion, Larry, will be defending his title at Congham Fete after a two minute 27 second victory last year. Don’t be perturbed if you don’t have an athlete in training, just bring along a good old garden snail on the day.Find out more here.
Titchwell Manor Summer Fete
Back for its sixth year and raising money for The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, this family (and dog!) friendly festival of food and drink will be a delicious day out. There will be food stalls offering Dingley Dell Pork and Southerlands Shellfish, cooking demonstrations, bouncy castles, hot dog eating competitions, Pimms, live music and much more at this fun filled day.Find out more here.
Strumpshaw Tree Fair
A celebration of wood crafters, artisans and talented local people is the premise of this unique fair. Giving visitors a trip back to the Albion tree fairs of old, you will be able to marvel at chainsaw artists and forge works, make baskets and try pole lathe turning, and even discover the magic of nature with The Fairyland Trust. A real day out with a difference.Find out more here.
