3 years ago I lost my brother Lee to cancer following a 6 year battle with the disease. He was my big brother, my partner in crime growing up as well as one of my best friends.
His diagnosis and his death had a massive impact on me and the rest of the family as we all struggled with why his life was cut so short at aged just 35, and why cancer is so unfair!
We as a family wanted to say thank you to those around us that provided a great sense of support to our family and give something back.
Whilst we can never thank all the friends, extended family and loved ones enough we can raise money to donate back to the 2 main organisations that provided a sense of normality and support to Lee.
Dereham Cancer Care is a Dereham based charity who support people living with cancer and their families and they were amazing with Lee right from initial diagnosis right up to the very end. They rely solely on donations and raising funds to keep the centre open.
And secondly we wanted to thank Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital Oncology Department. We are all quick to moan about the failings of the NHS but I must say with hand on heart that they were amazing with their care and treatment of Lee. They were caring and compassionate and always took the time to answer all the questions we had and in such a highly pressurised environment always remembered Lee and welcomed time to have a chat with him.
I know that I cannot bring him back but I will hold his memory in my heart forever and will always love him and just want to thank those who helped me enjoy 6 more years with him after the initial diagnosis.
Therefore this will be the 4th year we are holding The Lee Parker Memorial Dance and all the money raised from the evening will be split equally between these 2 amazing organisations.
Lee was a vibrant, outgoing lad who loved music and loved to dance and always had a huge smile on his face. So we felt that an evening of music and laughter was the best way to honour him. The wonderful live Lee Vasey band will be playing at the dance and there will be a huge charity raffle, games on the evening, bar and hog roast for everyone to enjoy.
Whilst we organise the event as a family, we couldn’t do it without help from friends lending a hand, lots of local business’ donating raffle prizes and financial support which is where I would like to thank Sowerbys from the bottom of my heart for their offer to match fund. Sowerbys have kindly agreed that they will donate £1000 towards the cause. This will make an enormous difference to the overall total of money raised.
I have raised an increasing amount year on year that the dance has been held with last year’s total coming in at £5775 and would absolutely love it if I could top this number this year, especially now I have the very generous offer of support from Sowerbys.
"I can't thank you all enough for the excellent way everyone at Sowerbys handled my sale. From the initial meeting with Max, the superb brochure with his pictures, to my contact with all in the office, Joanna, Toby and Flora, it was always a pleasure to see and talk to them. A special thanks for Joanna who was regularly in contact with me, updating me on feedback and booking viewers. It says much for the firm that viewers arrived on time and were genuinely interested in the property. I will certainly be recommending them to friends and returning the next time I move home. With grateful thanks Sonia Lindqvist "
