We have spoken to Helen, the owner of Hawthorn & Bee, who gives us an insight into the business and what she loves about living in Norfolk.
Please introduce yourself!
I’m Helen Winterbone and I have lived in Dereham for 25 years, I opened Hawthorn and Bee in January 2020, and moved to our present location a week ago.
What inspired you to open an eco-friendly shop?
I have always been interested in environmental issues and have brought eco and sustainable products when possible and just decided it would be a nice idea to sell these products myself.
Do you think we will see more sustainable shops such as yours opening in the high street?
I think it would be great to see more sustainable shops on the high street, I really believe independent retailers are what makes a high street interest and is what makes our small market towns great.
What range of products do you offer?
We sell a wide variety of products including refill liquid household and personal care products, refill dried foods and vegan food. eco friendly candles, wax melts, soaps, and body butters which come from local small independent business, and much more. Our refill cleaning products are our most popular products!
What do you love about Norfolk?
I am Norfolk born and bred and love living in Norfolk. We have great countryside and coasts for walking, lovely towns for browsing and I love Norwich! It’s one of the countries top vegan friendly city’s, it’s got some great vegan cafes and restaurants and some wonderful independent producers of vegan food and drinks.
