Rugs - a must-have item.
The beauty of rugs is that they work on a variety of levels. Apart from providing comfort underfoot - especially on a wood or tiled flooring - they actually do so much more than that. Rugs pull a room together and complete the look. They add interest, colour, texture and warmth. When you enter a room, the rug subliminally directs you where to go and they work on carpet just as well as hard flooring.
One tip that Fleur Home's Design Director Juliette is always keen to pass on, is that if you can, always go bigger than you think – especially with rugs in sitting rooms and dining areas. In sitting rooms, it’s important visually that the rug does not end up as an island with the sofas and chairs around the rug, perhaps with just a coffee table on it. Buy the biggest rug you can and ensure the sofa/chair legs are on all the rug, as this really enriches the look of the room.
The same applies to dining areas, make sure the table and all the chairs, even when pulled back, are all on the rug. This doesn’t just work aesthetically, but on a practical level too.
