Overlooking the square where once the calls of market traders echoed in the air and merchant visitors strolled, our King's Lynn office is a piece of West Norfolk's rich heritage.
Perched on the banks of the River Great Ouse the town was once one of the most important and busiest ports in the country. Today the cobbled streets along the quay play home to eateries and stores.
For many years the Sowerbys team could be found on King Street; once known as ‘Stockfish Row’ for the number of fish merchants that lived there. With a listed building every 26ft, Sir John Betjeman described it as one of the finest walks in England.
Growth to the business saw the branch relocate in 2022 to Bank Chambers; a grand listed property sitting centrally in a row of historic buildings at the top of Tuesday Market Place.
Peer out of one of the many front-facing windows and soak up the mesmerizing comings and goings of shoppers across the square, surrounded entirely by enchanting architecture which have watched over the hustle and bustle, and heart of the town, for centuries.
Before its restoration, Bank Chambers sat empty for a number of years.
No one was expecting to uncover such history inside; from the names of local people etched in the window shutter, to what is considered to be the first wallpaper hung on the medieval timber frame wall still in place, and the original brick wall and beams dating to 1480.
Step through the front door and rest your feet in the comfortable client lounge, clients and partners are welcome to make use of a grand boardroom with those iconic marketplace views.
