About Norwich

Norwich lies on two rivers – the Yare and Wensum – and these have had a significant influence on the city’s development. Norwich boasts museums, galleries, festivals, performances, music events, entertainment venues and exhibitions alongside historic heritage buildings such as the Maddermarket Theatre, Strangers’ Hall, Norwich Castle and cathedral.

Norwich is the first (and only) English city to gain UNESCO City of Literature status, joining just nine other cities worldwide whose literary heritage, current strengths and future commitment to the growth of literary arts are recognised as world-leading. The city is home to two universities, a world-leading scientific research park and an expanding financial and retail centre.

Property types

There are a variety of property types in the Norwich area from large Victorian houses in the ‘Golden Triangle’ between Ipswich Road and Newmarket Road, to new-build family homes and town houses on the outskirts of the city. Young professionals may prefer the Victorian terraces within the city wall or maybe an apartment within one of the converted mills along the riverside.

What you’ll get for your money

A typical one-bedroom flat in the city will sell for around £130,000. The popular Golden Triangle ranges vastly from a three bedroom terrace at £400,000 to a detached five bedroom house in excess of £1million. If you’re looking to let, then you can expect to achieve between £133 per week for a one-bedroom flat and £498 per week for a six-bedroom town house within the city.

What else can you expect from Norwich?

Norwich is ranked as one of the ten best centres for shopping in the UK. Castle Mall and Chapelfield shopping centres are within walking distance of each other and contain the historic Norwich Market in between them as well as the leading department stores and retailers you’d expect to see on the high street. Elsewhere, you can take a wander through the eclectic Norwich Lanes with boutique shops set inside beautiful historic buildings. There’s always something to do with many tourist attractions, parks, restaurants and the highest number of pubs per square mile in the UK.


Norwich is just two hours by train from London and is linked to surrounding areas by major A roads, namely the A47 and A11. There are also a number of local train services with lines running along the Great Yarmouth, Sheringham, Lowestoft and Cambridge routes. 

Local amenities

There is a choice of high-performing independent schools within the city (including the prestigious Norwich School within the Cathedral Quarter) alongside many state schools rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ by Ofsted.
