Custom build enabler LivedIN, working in collaboration with architects Project Orange and AREA landscape architects gained permission for this exciting self-build venture, with the aim of encouraging committed occupiers to build a strong community in the centre of the village.
The 10 self-build plots of varying sizes have been designed so they are of their time and place. The traditional influences are juxtaposed with modern details, materials and windows which work together to create light-filled, eco-friendly, modern homes that sit comfortably in their surroundings. The houses enjoy generous living spaces, designed to interlink with the large gardens and take advantage of the beautiful views beyond.
Custom build is intended to make self-build easier and cheaper - while also increasing design levels. custom build is the division of the housing market that is allowing self-build to go mainstream. The essence is to provide an alternative to speculative development by fundamentally giving the end-users more choice. However, self-build is complex, so custom build provides various ways of facilitating the process so that the homeowner can end up with the home of their dreams.
A hallmark of custom build is the choice it offers the homeowner. Although the architecturally designed plans have been approved and everything is ready to go, there is flexibility so you can put your stamp on your home.

Homeowners do not need to hire an architect to design the houses - as this is already in place. The architectural designs are by award winning architects Project Orange and the landscape setting has been carefully crafted by AREA landscape architects.
This is still possible for the homeowner. A design code outlines how the buyers can change the appearance of
the homes in terms of windows, sky lights, cladding, solar panels, etc. The interiors are also designed with flexibility in mind for those who prefer open plan or more contained options.

Which will fit into the local rural setting. By pre-designing the houses and allowing the homeowners to build themselves with some flexibility, the houses will sit harmoniously next to each other and within their village setting, whilst allowing the homeowners to customise the houses to fit their individual needs.
In addition, the landowner is going to invest heavily in the landscaping so half of The Green will be given over as a communal area for everyone to enjoy. The houses will be set around and overlook the new village green which will be planted with indigenous species, including Oak, Scots Pine, Alder and Weeping Willow. The pond will be increased to its 19th-century size and have its biodiversity improved.
So, not only can you achieve your self-build dreams, you can do so while surrounded by like-minded people and together create an exciting community.
