Introducing... Hannah Hunnam Flowers

Published: 10/08/2021

Next up in our exciting 'Introducing' blog series, where we feature new, local businesses is Hannah Hunnam Flowers!

A local florist who started her business at the start of lockdown last year, Hannah offers a beautiful variety of flowers for a number of different occasions.

We chat to her below...

Please introduce yourself!

Hello! My name is Hannah Hunnam, and I am an independent florist based in beautiful West Norfolk, specialising in colourful, wild and whimsical floral arrangements. I’m passionate about working with the seasons, and use locally grown flowers wherever possible in my arrangements.

Where are you based?

I’m based in Castle Acre, West Norfolk, and work from a little studio at my parent-in-law’s home (they happen to live in the same village as my Husband and I!) - I’m very grateful for this space!

What inspired you to start the business?

Whilst working in London, I had followed some incredible florists for some time online, and I think this fuelled a desire for me to explore working with flowers as a career. In 2016 (still in London), whilst working at an advertising agency, I’d saved up enough money to book myself onto an evening course (outside of work) at Jamie Aston’s floristry school. Once I’d completed the course, I was fortunate enough to be trusted by some very dear friends to create the flower arrangements for their weddings, which was great experience, but it took me a little while to pluck up the courage and focus on floristry as a full-time career. I eventually did so, making the move to leave my job as an Account Director in September 2019. I officially started my business at the beginning of lockdown in 2020, starting with my ‘Doorstep Deliveries/Friday Flowers’, which I still offer as a service today.

Where does your love of flowers come from?

I have very fond memories of running around huge lavender beds growing up with friends at our family home, and mum’s love for scented garden roses which she’d bring inside and plonk into jugs on the kitchen table. I love the ability that scented flowers have to transport you back to a place, or memory, and the profound impact they can have on a person and their mood.

How long has the business been open?

I officially started my business at the beginning of lockdown last year, so just over a year and a half now!

What do you offer/what makes you unique?

I offer a full range of services, from Weddings, Events, Party and Contract flowers - to Funeral Flowers and weekly Friday Flower deliveries. I think what makes me unique is that I love to surprise and delight my customers, and thoughtfully create arrangements by working with local growers, choosing seasonal flowers that perhaps you wouldn’t normally see in your arrangements, and experimenting with colour and movement, whilst also focusing on the tiny details which make a design really quite special.

Your favourite flower/product you sell?

I love my weekly Friday Flowers, because every week the designs and flowers are different, so this is a natural favourite - that said, I love the Christmas products I stock! My dried-flower baubles are always a great hit, as well as wreaths, swags and garlands, all of these are so fun to make as no two are the same (that goes for Friday Flowers too - every bouquet is a little different!).

What do you love most about Norfolk?

The vast skies, the sunsets, the landscapes, and the peace. There’s nothing more special than a morning walk along the River Nar towards the Castle Acre Priory Ruins when the sun is rising or setting, and the mist is wrapping the water-meadows around you. I will never grow tired of our beautiful county!
