From the Expert: Designing the Identity of a New Homes Development
When a new homes development launches, most people focus on the homes themselves. But long before the first viewing takes place or a brochure is printed, a lot of work goes into shaping how that development will be presented.
Sowerbys Senior Design & Website Lead, Jamie Read, shares more:
My role is to ensure every development we market has an identity which reflects the place it sits in.
Good new homes marketing isn’t simply about listing properties. It’s about creating branding and design which feels authentic to the site and helps buyers connect with the development from the very beginning.
For me, that process starts with the history of the location. Many developments across Norfolk have interesting pasts which can subtly influence how a development is named and designed. At Allium Way in Walpole Cross Keys, for example, the site was once home to an onion factory.
The name and visual identity gently reference that history, creating a link to the area without overpowering the development itself.
Graphic design plays a big part in bringing a scheme to life. I want my work to be considered and distinctive. Conversations across our new homes teams help me produce branding in-house.
As a whole, we’re incredibly proud of our marketing team here at Sowerbys and I’m so pleased maintain a high standard across everything we produce for our clients - from brochures and site boards to digital marketing and website presentation.
Another important part of my role is helping buyers visualise what a finished development may look like. New homes are often marketed while construction is still underway, so imagery plays a crucial role.
Through careful image editing I can enhance photographs to show elements such as completed lawns, garage doors or finished interiors. These small details help people imagine how a home will feel once the site is complete.
Once the branding and imagery are in place, I also prepare each development for our award-winning website. As website lead, I ensure a development is clearly presented online.
It’s an integral part of modern property marketing. We want our buyers to discover as much as they can about the sites and communities being created across Norfolk – not just find stand-alone listings.
While I lead our graphic design and the management of our website, I am one of many in a dedicated team which wants to do its best for both buyers and sellers.
When our genuine understanding of places come together, the result is more than just marketing homes; it’s the spine of the story which people can picture themselves living in…
