Half Term in Norfolk based on your family's energy level

Half Term in Norfolk based on your family's energy level hero

February half term is here - and whether your family is bursting with energy or happy to take things slow, Norfolk has plenty to offer. From quiet beach walks to high-octane adventures, the county is full of family-friendly experiences - and it’s easy to see why so many families love calling Norfolk home.

Here’s our guide to half-term fun, sorted by your kids’ energy levels.

Chill Mode: For those who want a slower pace

Sometimes, half term is all about taking a breath (or as the Norfolk saying goes "show you down"). For families who prefer gentle activities, Norfolk’s calm corners are perfect:

- Bookworm mornings: Holt Library and other local libraries host storytimes and creative workshops - or grab your favourite book and find a quiet spot outside to sit and read among nature.

- Beach walks: Cromer, Wells-next-the-Sea, and other coastal spots offer peaceful strolls along the sand - great for spotting wildlife or building sandcastles. Head to the Norfolk coastal path or RSPB sites for short strolls and scenic views.

Market stalls: Head to one of our many market towns on market day to browse local produce and crafts. From Dereham to Downham Market, King's Lynn and Fakenham - or if you're heading into the city. Norwich lanes and market provide daily sweet treats, coffee and independent goods.

- Thornham foodie hotspot: Start the day with a slow brunch at Thornham Deli before picking up some nibbles at the food counter or browsing its quirky lifestyle store. Retail therapy is waiting at Drove Orchards along with Gurneys Fish Shop.

Drove Orchards is also home to the original, award winning Eric’s Fish and Chips and Eric’s Pizza. But if you are looking for good pub grub, head to The Lifeboat, The Chequers Inn or The Orange Tree pubs - all located within this small but prominent village.

Medium-Energy Explorers:

For families who want a bit of activity without going full-throttle, Norfolk offers a sweet spot:

- Farm trails, Nature trails and animal encounters: Local farms offer walks, feeding sessions, and plenty of opportunities for little explorers to get hands-on.

  • Church Farm - Stow Bardolph
A classic Norfolk farm visit where children can meet friendly animals, pet livestock, and enjoy outdoor play areas and animal trails. A lovely mix of farm fun and hands-on animal time right in King’s Lynn.

  • Snettisham Park Farm
This 329-acre working farm near King’s Lynn offers tractor-trailer deer safaris, lamb feeding, pony rides, egg collecting, and scenic walking trails. It’s an immersive countryside experience for kids and adults alike.

  • Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure
For something a bit different, Roarr! combines a dinosaur-themed adventure park with farmyard fun. Kids can explore life-sized dinosaurs, enjoy rides, and meet some friendly farm animals along the way.

  • Pensthorpe Natural Park
A nature reserve that’s perfect for curious little explorers. With riverside walks, birdwatching, and seasonal wildlife events, it’s a peaceful but engaging way to get children outdoors and learning about nature.

  • The Broads: A walk in The Broads National Park lets kids explore rivers, wildlife, and woodland trails at a comfortable pace - or for those wanting to get on the water, hire a boat for a day on the Broads!

High-Energy Adventurers: For those who can’t sit still

Some children are bundles of energy - perfect for the county’s more adventurous offerings:

- Cycling and outdoor trails: Norfolk Coast cycle routes are ideal for family bike rides with scenic views.

- Go Ape in Thetford Forest: Treetop adventures and zip lines for thrill-seekers.

It’s not just half term that makes Norfolk special. Families are drawn here for the lifestyle: the mix of countryside charm, vibrant towns, and coastal escapes.
