How to spend 24 hours in one of Norfolk's best loved seaside towns Sheringham hero

Once a humble fishing village, Sheringham was transformed by the arrival of the railway into one of Norfolk’s favourite seaside resorts. Today, it’s a magnet for day-trippers, families, and walkers, all drawn by its stunning coastline, nostalgic charm, and relaxed pace. Steeped in history but full of fun, Sheringham is a place to explore, indulge, and truly unwind.

From sunrise hikes to steam trains and crumble-topped treats, here’s how to spend the perfect day in this much-loved North Norfolk town.

Set your alarm early

Start your day with a climb up Beeston Bump, a glacial hill just east of town offering panoramic views of Sheringham, the sea, and inland countryside. Part of the ancient Cromer Ridge, it dates back to the Ice Age and as you watch the sun rise from the summit, you’ll feel like you’re part of something timeless.

Prefer a more peaceful start? Head west to Weybourne Beach, where shingle shores and fossil-rich rocks offer a quiet, meditative alternative to the livelier town seafront.

Mid-morning munchies

After your early wander, reward yourself in town with a bite (or two). Sheringham’s High Street is full of temptation. Stock up on fresh bakes from The Craft Bakery or go all in with early fish and chips from Seafare, a local favourite since 1968.

Craving something sweet? Don’t miss The Crumble Crib their Half & Half bowl (apple and berry, topped with vegan shortbread and custard) is an instant classic.

Need coffee? Grey Seal Coffee has been roasting award-winning beans on the Norfolk coast since 2012, and their Sheringham outpost never disappoints.

Walk this way

Suitably fuelled, take a slow stroll along the promenade or head to the beach for some stone skimming and beachcombing. Feeling adventurous? Hire a paddleboard from SUP Shack Sheringham and test your balance on the water.

Back on dry land, The Mo (Sheringham Museum) is a must-visit. This striking seafront building tells the story of over 1,000 years of local history from fishing boats to lifeboats and local legends.

Fancy stretching your legs? Just outside town, Sheringham Park offers miles of woodland trails and coastal views. Designed by landscape legend Humphry Repton, the park is a National Trust treasure, known for its rhododendrons in spring but magical in every season.

Steam, screens and supper

End your day with a ride on the Poppy Line, a lovingly restored steam railway running between Sheringham and Holt. Sit back and take in the view: sea to one side, poppy-strewn fields to the other it’s a postcard-perfect slice of North Norfolk.

For the evening, Sheringham continues to deliver. Sheringham Little Theatre has a huge reputation for high-quality productions, often featuring big names in a wonderfully intimate setting.

Pair your theatre visit with a relaxed dinner at The Sitting Room (live music and a great menu), or head to Whelk Coppers, a seafront favourite with an imaginative cocktail list and sea views to match. Rumour has it the ornate wrought iron gates were designed by Walt Disney himself a magical end to a day full of charm.

From cliff-top sunrises to historic steam trains, fish and chips to crumbles, Sheringham offers the perfect 24-hour escape on the Norfolk coast, and we guarantee once won’t be enough.
