The UK's first modern home made using straw, water, and mud, is to be sold by Sowerbys Estate Agents.
Known as The Cob House, this pioneering property in Fakenham, Norfolk, has captured national attention since its construction and represents a significant milestone in sustainable living.
Built by local builders Grocott and Murfit and designed by Hudson Architects, this remarkable home is the UK's first domestic CobBauge building, created as part of a four-year project aimed at developing more energy-efficient housing.

The walls are constructed from a combination of hemp straw, water, and earth, a traditional material mix known as Cob.
This innovative technique not only meets modern building regulations but also ensures thermal insulation. The property boasts large, south-facing triple-glazed windows for optimal solar gain during winter, and an air source heat pump for efficient heating.
Architect Anthony Hudson led the EU-funded project, with a mission to modernise the use of earth in construction. By integrating pure cob for structural integrity with thermally insulated earth, Hudson created a home that is both sustainable and practical.
Harry Thompson, Sowerbys Land and New Homes Manager said: “The Cob House project is an important step for the future of sustainable building practices.
“Grocott & Murfit decision to be involved in such an innovative project is a great testament to them as an organisation, further demonstrating their passion to push the boundaries within the building industry.
“There is no doubt The Cob House will become a solid local landmark, creating history here in Fakenham.
“Sowerbys is proud to bring this innovative property to market and looks forward to its impact on the future of sustainable housing.”

Paula Tuck, Sowerbys Fakenham branch manager added: “Having worked with Grocott & Murfitt for many years, witnessing their rise in the industry. Their joint venture with architect Anthony Hudson in ‘CobBauge House’ is the most engrossing education for myself and my team.
