GUIDE: A summer's day in Norfolk

A perfect day in one of west Norfolk’s best coastal villages

A perfect day in one of west Norfolk’s best coastal villages hero

From Roman roots to Michelin-worthy dining, Snettisham is a place where nature, history and village life come together in the most charming way. Whether you’re here for the day or a lifetime, here’s how to make the most of 24 hours in this stunning West Norfolk village.

Morning is Broken… and Beautiful

Spring mornings here are something special. At first light, head to the RSPB Snettisham Reserve to witness thousands of wading birds rise from the mudflats — a truly spectacular sight. The 2.2km walk from the car park to the watch point is peaceful and scenic, with bird hides along the way for quiet contemplation. Check rspb.org.uk for tide times.

Even if you miss the display, the reserve is rich in wildlife and beauty, especially as the shingle flowers begin to bloom in warmer weather.

Mid-Morning Pick-Me-Up

Back in the village, grab coffee and a pastry at The Old Store.  A café and microbakery where everything is as delicious as it looks. Their sourdough is legendary, so grab a loaf to take home.

Need a little pampering? Across the road, good hair and beauty (@goodnorfolk) offers stylish cuts and treatments, and can even bring in bites from The Old Store. On busy weekends, head to The Granary on Beach Road for coffee and antiques in a laid-back, historic setting.

Afternoon Adventures

Start your afternoon at the stunning St Mary’s Church, dating to the 14th century and home to a 172ft spire and beautiful stained glass. Open daily, it’s one of Norfolk’s most architecturally impressive churches.

If you’ve got little ones (or love animals), Snettisham Park is the place for lamb feeding, tractor rides, and meeting red deer up close.

For something wilder, Wild Ken Hill offers rewilding tours, regenerative farming insight, and is the site of the famed Snettisham Hoard, Iron Age gold treasures discovered right beneath your feet.

Evening All

As the sun sets, grab a table at the Rose & Crown for pub classics and a drink in their award-winning beer garden.

Or book into The Old Bank, the Michelin Guide-listed bistro from the team behind The Old Store, where seasonal dishes and warm hospitality round off your day in style.

Whether you’re here for a short stay or putting down roots, Snettisham captures the very best of Norfolk’s coast and countryside. From dawn birdwatching to dusk dining, it’s a village that invites you to slow down, look around, and feel right at home.
