A quiet coastal village between Old Hunstanton and Thornham, Holme-next-the-Sea is known for its wide beach, marshes, wildlife and rich local history.

Holme-next-the-Sea

Holme-next-the-Sea is a peaceful coastal village on the north Norfolk coast, known for its huge expanse of beach, open marshes and quiet, natural setting.

The area is especially popular with bird-watchers, walkers and those who enjoy the slower pace of coastal village life. The village is also home to The White Horse, a well-regarded local pub.

Holme-next-the-Sea has a rich sense of history. An ancient ring of timbers discovered on Holme beach after a very low tide is believed to have been a ritual burial site dating from Druid times. Known as Seahenge, it has since been removed for conservation and is now exhibited at Lynn Museum in King’s Lynn.

The village sits between Old Hunstanton and Thornham, with the wider amenities of Hunstanton just a short drive away.

Hunstanton was established in 1846 by Henry Le Strange as a bathing resort designed in a Victorian Gothic style. He also led the development of a railway from King’s Lynn, allowing day-trippers to reach the new town and helping Hunstanton become one of Norfolk’s best-known coastal resorts.

Today, Hunstanton remains a popular seaside town, with boat trips on the Wash Monster, traditional arcades, fairground rides, the Princess Theatre, mini golf and pitch and putt on the cliff-top, as well as a renowned links course in neighbouring Old Hunstanton.
